History:Kanipakam vinayakaswamy Temple
Temple belongs to 11th century Cholas, renovated by Vijayanagara Dynasty in 13th century, with beautiful pond. The blackstone Ganesh idol has white, yellow&red colours adoring his forehead..Kanipakam is a small village on the bank of Bahuda River.Kani means wetland&Pakam means flow of water into wetland.According to the legend of the temple there were 3 brothers, who were handicap(Dumb, Deaf&Blind)&cultivating a small piece of land using well water. One day well got dried up&One of them got into the well&started digging it up with iron rod,hit a stone like formation.
Blood oozed out from it. Within in seconds entire water in the well, turned red. With divine sight, all the 3 became normal, get rid of their deformities. Self manifested idol of Lord emerged from swirling waters.
Even today the idol is in the original well, the springs are eternal, offered to the devotees as theertham.During the rainy season, water from the well overflows.Another striking&strange feature of the idol is that it is still growing in size.At present,we can see the knees&the abdomen of the idol.Lakshmamma, devotee had offered a Kavacham(Armour)to the Lord,50yrs ago, today it is out of size&doesn’t fit the idol,so put in showcase.
