Kaveri Pushkaras celebration is 12 days festival of River Kaveri that normally occurs for every 12 years. Rivers celebration is known as Pushkaras. Jupiter enters Libra or Tula at certain time from then Pushkaras are started and celebrated for 12 days. Pushkara is spiritual festival of holy bath, Pinda pradana, devotional cultural programmes near pushkara river Ghats.

Pushkaras are celebrated at the ghats of following rivers near to famous shrines. For every river pushkaras done for 12 years. Those 12 holy rivers are

4.Yamuna

5.Godavari

6.Krishna

7.Kaveri

At certain time Jupiter enters into zodiac sign related to the river for each year.

ORIGIN&Kaveri Pushkaras

Talakaveri,Kodagu district, in Brahmagiri ranges, is river Kaveri origin. It flows in Karnataka, Kerala and thenTamil Nadu & Pondicherry.  As it flows forming a wide delta called the garden of southern India, main irrigation source. It forms two islands Srirangapatna & Shivanasamudra. When it flows in Eastern Ghats forms beautiful falls & merges into Bay of Bengal as two tributaries.

Kaveri Tributaries: Kabini,Hemavati, Lakshmana Tirtha, Kabini, Shimsha, Bhavani, Arkavathy etc

Dams: Krishna Raja Sagara, Mettur Dam & Banasura Sagar Dam.

History: Many legends are there about Kaveri. Once in Brahmagiri hills for Lord Brahma, one king did peanance. For the boon he got a daughter Kaveri. Agastya maharshi married her & sent into kamandala (holy water jug). Once a drought has come in this place. Then Lord Ganesha as a crow, created gap to the holy water jug & Kaveri came out formed as river.

Kaveri pushkaras POOJA INFOrmation

In Kaveri Pushkaras we can perform Following rituals

Mahasankalpa:  Praying pitru devatas by chanting their names, gotras for removing our birth bad karmas&sins

Laghusankalpa: Saying names & gotras, performs a holy dip in Pushkara water.

Ganga Pooja: In pushkaras time all rivers present in Pushkara water so to please Ganga matha & hindu gods Ganga pooja is performed.

GouriPooja: On river side to please goddess Gauri kumkum Archana is done.

Pindapradanam: Hindus to offer pindas to their nearest 33 family members who passed away. This ritual provides salvation after their death&they can reach to Urdhwa lokas(salvation).

Musivayanam: when a woman dies, her husband is alive, attaining salvation for that woman. Sumangali is given Musivayanam. Sariganga Snanam, prayaschitta are other rituals.

TIPS: Choose Ghat with flowing water &hygiene, better to avoid kids. Carry drinking water.
